Tesoro performs at DeGrazia Galleria

14 06 2009

Tesoro performed for an energetic crowd at the deGrazia Gallery in Tucson yesterday. The audience rose to their feet at the close of El Rey de Huazteca, a complex piece featuring, Araceli Valenzuela – granddaughter of Dr. Valenzuela (Dr. V as he is known), on violin, and cantantes Fernando & Chung. Ara’s violin solo conjured the hypnotic sound of gypsy music.

Tesoro also received resounding applause for it’s performance of La Sevillana, a diificult arrangement featuring las trompetas – Conrad, René, & Fernando, in nearly non-stop trills and slurs. The three trumpet players perform alternately in rounds and unison to create a lively melody to audience cheers. You can here the Cinco de mayo peeformance of Sevillana on the official Tesoro de Tucson YouTube channel or the atucson International Conference performance at YouTube channel of rickyb61.

The event was to honor the 100th birthday of artist, Ted deGrazia. The son of Italian immigrants, Mr. deGrazia was born in Morenci, AZ. Pima County Board Supervisor Ann Day delivered the opening remarks charcterizing deGrazia as one of the great artists of his time. The governor’s office sent a representative to read a proclamation along these lines as did Mayor Bob Walkup.

Tesoro enjoyed performing at the gallery, as they have several times before. The audience was particularly receptive and greatly appreciated.

Thank you Tucson.

The Espectacular

24 04 2009

Hey everyone! Tesoro is back in the TCC ‘green room – more like huge space, getting ready to perform with the master class of students at this year’s TIMC. They’re excited – to say the least. Later, a lot of the TIMC participants will play together at the hotel downtown, along with Vargas, Los Camperos & other professional mariachis & conference teachers. But we won’t rush it. Tesoro patents are looking forward to the concert!

Also want to say Tesoro is very proud of it’s apprentices, who played with Dr. V last night at the Showcase. Great job! Luna sang beautifully. And Tesoro little brother, Ben, performed con gusto and confidence.

Any TIMC participants or concert goers, let us know what fun you had tonight!
!Viva mariachi!
